Thrills and spills are expected as Kenya Teachers Colleges Sports Association (KTCSA) Ball Games start in Murang’a on Monday.
The championships would be graced by a number of players who were outstanding in high schools games last year.
Several players who featured in the successful team of Archbishop Njenga High girls’ football team have since joined various colleges and are expected to extend their prowess to this level.
Former Njenga’s midfield maestro Lilian Busolo has joined Eregi and she is expected to appear in the team’s line-up in Murang’a.
Alpha Wafula who played alongside Busolo at Njenga will be featuring for Kaimosi.
Former Njenga Captain and U-17 national striker Joy Wafula and Topista Situma are with women’s football giants International Teaching and Training College.
Busolo, Wafula, Joy and Situma were all members of the rocky Njenga squad that dominated East African and National Games over last five years.
KTCSA committee member Eliud Wambua said: “Colleges games are growing fast with time and we expect to witness much improved standards in all the disciplines,”Wambua told FeverPitch in Nairobi on Friday.
All defending champions have confirmed participation.
Defending champs in men’s category are: Kericho (netball), Asumbi (basketball), Eregi (handball), Kamwenja (volleyball), International Teaching and Training College (football), Shanzu (hockey) and Machakos (goal ball).
Teams are expected to have arrived at the games’ main venue on April 8 ready for action the following day.
Wambua named Makuyu High, Kakuzi, Don Bosco and Mang’u High as other venues to co-host the games.
He confirmed that Education Permanent Secretary Professor George Godia would preside over opening ceremony.
The official said that KTCSA has put stringent measures in place to curb possible cheating.
Wambua said: “Principals must present prove of names as they appear in admission registers, admission number and national identity and college card among other official documents.
”The event involves teams from seven zones of the KTCSA namely: Western, Coast, Nairobi, Eastern, Central, Nyanza and Rift Valley. Nyanza won overall title last year.
