President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta has reaffirmed his commitment to fully implement the Constitution.

Uhuru promised his Government would implement devolution in line with the Constitution and the wishes of Kenyans.

He further pledged to roll-out devolution in a consistent and effective manner that does not interrupt the delivery of services. The President-elect said he would meet with Governors and other leaders, to iron out outstanding issues in the process of devolution.

Speaking on Friday when he met a delegation of church leaders under the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) who paid him a courtesy call at his KICC office, Nairobi, the President-elect also assured church leaders that his Government would consider their request to review the Basic Education Act 2012.

He thanked faith-based institutions for their role in provision of education and other services and affirmed his commitment to strengthen the partnership between the Government and religious organisations.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, NCCK Secretary General Peter Karanja congratulated President-Uhuru and his Deputy William Ruto on their election and wished them well in managing the affairs of the country.

In a memorandum, the church leaders stressed the need for national healing and reconciliation saying the just concluded General Election had left the country wounded and divided. They called for concerted efforts by the Government, the Church and other non-state actors towards fostering peace, healing and reconciliation.

The delegation included the Archbishop of the Anglican church of Kenya Eliud Wabukala, Reverend David Kathanju of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa and the Rt Rev Julius Kalu among others.

Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama yesterday sent a congratulatory message to Uhuru and Ruto on their election. The message was delivered to the President-elect at his KICC office by America’s Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec.
