Pan Africa Life has launched a six part golf series in Kenya.
The events, dubbed Pan Africa Life Golf Challenge tee off at Nanyuki Sports Club this weekend.
Golfers from Nyeri, Meru and Nanyuki will participate in the opening round of the series.
From Nanyuki, the Challenge will move to the Eldoret on May 11 and then to Nakuru on June 8.
Action would then move to East to the Nyali Golf and Country Club on July 13.
The grand finale will be staged at Muthaiga on September 27.
Speaking during the launch of the events at Muthaiga yesterday, Pan Africa Life Chief Executive Officer Tom Gitogo, said the events were part of their strategy to popularize the sport of golf in the country.
“We’ve traditionally held a corporate golf day in Nairobi and this finale will serve both as the culmination of our Challenge and as our corporate golf day,” he said.
The overall winner of the Challenge wins an all-expenses-paid trip to participate in the 2013 Sanlam Cancer Challenge at Sun City Golf Resort on October 21-22.
“Hopefully, this trip will give Kenyan golfers adequate motivation to play great golf and improve their skills,” said Gitogo.
The Sanlam Cancer Challenge has raised more than Sh260 million for cancer research since its inception in 1993.
Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy’s last-minute, last-ditch effort to right his game in time for the Masters next week has taken a trip to a usually out-of-the-way spot on the PGA Tour, adds AP.
McIlroy and three other highly-ranked players in the Official World Golf Rankings started playing in the Valero Texas Open yesterday at TPC San Antonio.
“It obviously was a last-minute decision to come and play here in San Antonio,” McIlroy said after his pro-am round Wednesday was washed out by rainstorms on his 13th hole. “But from what I see I like it. It should be a good week, a week where I can try to get my game sharp going to Augusta.”
