Nairobi, Kenya: Kenya Airways has increased its flights to Kisumu in a move aimed at meeting surging demand on the route.

KQ announce on Thursday that introduced additional morning and evening flights daily to bring to 34 the number of times the airline flies to Kisumu every week, up from the 25 times it did previously.

The last flight will leave Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 6.30pm and the return flight will depart Kisumu International Airport for Nairobi at 7.15am.

KQ CEO Titus Naikuni said the additional flights will help meet increase demand by middleclass who travel frequently on the route.

“As Kenya enters the era of a devolved system of government there is an increased need for robust transport network linking up different parts of the country,” Naikuni said.

The surging demand on the Kisumu route has been triggered partly by the Kisumu International Airport that was recently expanded and upgraded to international status.

The increased flights are expected to boost the economy of the region while also supporting the flow of tourist traffic into the Western Kenya.
