Nairobi, Kenya: The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) in Kenya will give their findings on the just concluded presidential election petition in their final report within a month.
The final report will include an analysis of the tallying and the petitions, and will offer recommendations for how to enhance the efficiency and transparency of future elections. It will be presented by Chief Observer Alojz Peterle at a press conference in Nairobi.
Mr Peterle, in a statement, stated the EU EOM had closely monitored the elections, including the petitions.
“EU observers have been following the petitions closely, and will present their findings about the legal process in the mission’s final report, he said.
He further lauded the parties involved for seeking legal redress to settle the election dispute, which he noted demonstrated great responsibility for the country.
“To assist the work of Kenyan election officials, legislators and civil society, the EU EOM will present a comprehensive assessment of the electoral process in the near future,” Mr Peterle said.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission announced Uhuru Kenyatta the President-elect after he won the March 4 presidential election.
Prime Minister Raila Odinga, however, contested the results citing irregularities in the electoral process. He filed a petition before the The Supreme Court.
