Kenya Commercial Bank lifted the 23rd edition of the Great Rift 10-Aside rugby championships title after routing stubborn University of Nairobi side Mean Machine 10-0 in fast but entertaining match at Nakuru Athletic Club last evening.

Ian Indimuli and Jacob Ojay scored the crucial tries that downed the University of Nairobi students after leading 5-0 at the break.

KCB coach Curtis Olago attributed the victory to hard work by his talented boys who played according to instruction.

“They were in a great form and played according to what I told them and deserved to win,” he said.

Enroute to the finals, the bankers walloped Impala 10-0 while Mean Machine dismissed Homeboyz 8-0.

In the quarterfinals, KCB downed hosts Menengai Oil Nakuru RFC 18-0 as Impala hit Blak Blad 23-0, Mean Machine shamed Lunch Bar Harlequins 8-5 and Homeboyz clobbered Eldoret RFC 18-0.

After failing to reach the Main Cup finals, hosts Menengai Oil Nakuru RFC dropped to the less prestigious Plate Competition where they were drubbed 12-0 by Kenya Harlequins in a tough match.

Enterprise Cup

Nakuru RFC deputy coach Jotham Owili attributed his side’s loss to mere strategy. The host are focusing on the Enterprise Cup finals match against Mwamba at Rugby Union of East Africa Grounds in Nairobi on Saturday.

“We benched our key players for the Enterprise Cup finals match against Mwamba RFC on Saturday. This title was not crucial to us,” Owili told FeverPitch.

Harlequins led 5-0 at the break from a try by Felix Oyange and he was the on the mark again in the second half with Kevin Kegan scoring a penalty.

Nakuru RFC defeated Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad 5-0 in the semis while Harlequins dismissed Eldoret RFC 16-0.

In the Bowl Competition, former champions Strathmore Leos won the title after edging out stubborn Western Bulls 26-13 in a fast match.

Tony Onyango, Joe Malit, Maclan Shikuku and Cyprian Kuto scored four tries for the winners as Ken Andola made a conversion with Bram Shikanda touching down for the eventual losers.

Solomon Obiero made the consolation conversion for the losers. Nakuru RFC II won the Shield Competition after they downed Comras 21-0 in a one sided match.

Nakuru RFC defeated Masaku RFC 18-0 in the semis while Comras slammed Multi Media University 16-13.
