KENYA: Religious leaders in western Kenya have lauded the Supreme Court for a unanimous verdict in the three presidential election petitions.

Speaking separately after the announcement of the verdict by Chief Justice Willy Mutunga, Bishop Joshua Koyo of the National Council of Churches Kenya based in Kisumu, said the decision was final and urged all Kenyans to respect it.

“It is important we all respect the Constitution. If we do this there would be no losers or winners regardless of who is president,” said Bishop Koyo. He appealed to President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta to equally respect the Constitution that brought him to power by facilitating the devolved Governments to benefit Kenyans. Pastor Paul Mwasya, who is the head of the Sevent Day Adventist Church called for peace and accommodation. He urged CORDleaders led by Prime Minster Raila Odinga to accept the verdict of the court.

Imam Ibrahim Sadala of Kakamega Jamia Mosque said the decision has sent a strong signal from the court since it was unanimous.

Mr Sadala congratulated Uhuru on his election and urged believers to pray for him as he takes over the affairs of the State.
