NAKURU; KENYA: Nakuru town erupted into song and dance immediately Chief Justice Willy Mutunga ruled the court had upheld the election of Uhuru Kenyatta as President.
Jubilee supporters moved up and down the streets with Uhuru’s portraits while chanting his name and that of his deputy William Ruto.
Public Service Vehicles that had been waiting to ferry passengers were pulled up to transport jubilant supporters of the Jubilee Coalition along the streets.
A number of business people who had remained busy throughout the day left their workstations to join in the celebrations. “The wait has been tense and we thank the Supreme Court for being a neutral arbiter and listening to the wishes of the over six million voters who voted for Jubilee,” said Mr Michael Kamau.
Businessman Wilson Kinyanjui praised the ruling and thanked the six Judges for respecting the wishes and aspirations of the majority. “It is now time to forget the past and soldier on. Declared winners should now extend a hand of cooperation to the losers so that we can move ahead as a nation,” he advised. Mr Eric Musewe, a boda boda operator said although he never voted for the President-elect, he respects the wishes of the majority and the court decision.
