Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Tusker stopped visiting Bandari 2-1 at City Stadium.

Former Mathare United striker Jesse Were opened the scores for Tusker in the 14th minute, but Eric Okoth in the 35th Minute.

Andrew Sekayambya then put the matters beyond Bandari’s reach at the hour mark with a hard shot from the edge of the box.

Earlier at the same venue, Sony Sugar fell again, going down 2-1 to City Stars. Dennis Okoth scored the opener for the winners in the 22nd minute before Charles Odette equalised for Sony in the 34th minute. Jimmy Bageya gave the Kawangware-based side their second win of the season with a close range finish in the 71st minute. The match started on a low pace with no threat from either side in the first five minutes. Sony skipper Sylvestre Wanyama got a pass from winger Bernard Meki, but his rasping shot that missed the target. Sony showed more intent and within 12 minutes had forced five corners with their opponents getting their first corner on the quarter mark.

The first chance for Sony came in the 10th minute when Marwa Chamberi was released down the right flank, but his cross was strongly defended by John Amboko to deny the advancing Francis Ouma a clear chance to slot home.

Meki should have scored for the visitors, but Amboko cleared the danger in the quarter  hour mark. Sony are without a win in six games so far this season. The sugar millers have also scored two goals so far this season, piling more pressure on head coach Sammy Omollo.

In another match, Thika  United leapt  back to the top of the KPL standings after stopping Chemelil Sugar 2-1 at home. Former Gor Mahia and KCB forward Ezekiel Odera scored for the winners in the first minute of the match.

It was Odera’s second goal in a row and gets him back to his 2010 season when he emerged as one of the top score’s in the league.

Odera’s return to KCB last season after a disappointing season in Gor Mahia in 2011 was not successful and his new found form at Thika promises to erase all that. Yesterday, he was in his true element.

Despite dropping all three points away, Chemelil gave as much as they received and they were back into the match almost immediately, scoring in the seventh minute through Jared Obwoge.

After that both teams tightened their defenses and neither side could get the better of the other but it was Thika United who had the last laugh after defender Dennis Odhiambo scored the winner in the 50th minute from the penalty spot.

In Kakamega,  Western Stima beat Kakamega Homeboyz 1 - 0 courtesy of Francis Ocholla’s goal in the 22nd minute. Ocholla was picked out by Fredrick Shimonyo  on the right flank and he did not hesitate completing with a neat shot that beat John Waw in goal.
