Nyandarua; Kenya: Tetu High imposed their dominance schools netball when they recorded their 11th straight victory during Aberdare region term one Championships at Mang’u.

In Metropoiltan region, it would be a clash of titans as Upper Hill clash with defending champions Laiser Hill in boys’ basketball final today.

Back to Aberdare, Tetu beat Kiriti 38-8 in a lopsided final encounter to qualify for National Championships that will be held at same venue on April 15-20.

Kiriti edged out Ngurwein 27-23 while Tetu whitewashed Graveyard 56-6 in semis.

Tetu’s Caroline Jerop was voted the top scorer with 46 goals.

Tetu coach Khims Wachira welcomed the victory saying: “We prepared well for the tournament and team members are happy that their hard work has finally paid off.”

The team will be looking to capitalise on home ground advantage to win their maiden National title and qualify for this year’s East African Games.

In girls’ basketball, Heights Senior defeated Karinga 32-23 to lift Aberdare title and make their first appearance in Nationals.

Heights beat Ndururumo 48-27 while Karinga overcame Kabare 48-39 in semis.

Alliance who dominated Aberdare region (formerly Central Province) was eliminated at county level.

In boys’ category, Mang’u gave home fans something to cheer home about after they walloped Nanyuki 101-29 to qualify for the final.

Nyeri High outclassed Pioneer 57-39 to set a final date with high-riding Mang’u.

The final match between Mang’u and Nyeri was still on by press time.

Aberdare is made up of six counties namely: Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga and Nyeri, Nyandarua and Laikipia.

At Upper Hill, Laiser Hill defeated Lukenya 81-21 while the host beat Malezi 84-54 in semis.                         

In girls’ category, Buru Buru beat Sengani 62-15 while Parklands Arya overcame Barasani 73-35 to qualify for the final.

The match between Arya and Buru Buru was an interesting pair as the former defeated the latter in Nairobi County final.

In Nakuru region games, Nakuru Day edged out Terike 14-13 in a closely contested final to earn a slot in the Nationals.

Boys’ basketball final that will be played today will see Kipkeino take on Kapsabet on the final day of the event.

Kapsabet beat Loreto Boys Nakuru 27-21 while Kipkeino dismissed 36-33 in semis.

In girls’ category, Kapkolei beat Moi Girls Eldoret 17-16 while Bahati defeated Kapkenda 31-10 to reach final.

Netball final will see St Francis Cheptarit tackle Kaptagat today.

Meanwhile, stiff competition is expected in athletics as Metropolitan Games end at Upper Hill today.

Metropolitan region comprises of Nairobi, Machakos, Makueni and Kajiado which are all very strong in athletics.

Nairobi county secretary Moses Mbuthia said: “Counties forming Metropolitan region areas produce some of the best athletes.”

“One would expect these youngsters to take their rivalry to the next level considering this is the first time they are competing at regional level,” he said.
