Sony Sugar FC have expressed confidence in the team’s head coach Sammy Omollo despite poor results in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) that has seen the club go four matches without a win.

The club chairman, Christopher Odero, said yesterday the coach’s job is safe for now and pointed out they are discussing ways of improving their performance.

“It is a temporary set-back. We were obviously expecting a better start, but we believe this shall pass. At the moment, we are not thinking of firing the technical bench because that is not where the problem is.

“I have met with members of the bench and the players to explore how we can improve in our up-coming matches,” said Odero.

Odero said the team still has a lot of time and room to improve, insisting that the season has just kicked off.

Sony remains winless in four matches and last weekend lost 3-0 to Bandari in Mombasa. The team faces Nairobi City Stars on Saturday at Hope Centre.

Technical bench

But a source at the club has claimed that the poor performance experienced has been contributed to by the management who are interfering with the technical bench and playing unit.

The source claimed senior players in the team could be revolting against the management over their alleged interference.

“There is problem at Sony. In the last two years, two coaches have been forced to leave without any good reason.

Key decision

Last year, Zedekiah Otieno was forced to leave the club despite helping the club finish in the top eight.

“The chairman is making all key decisions and sidelining everyone. Players are being suspected of throwing away matches and therefore are not giving their best,” claimed the source.

But Odero refuted the allegations and insisted all is well at the club.

“We are all disappointed by the performance, but making wild allegations over the same is even worse. No one has been sidelined for whatever reason and the management has left everyone to do their job as they deem fit. I have not heard of any disgruntled players,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bandari leave for Nairobi today ahead of their Saturday’s crunch match against titleholders Tusker, adds Ernest Ndunda.

The match is set for 2pm at City Stadium, Nairobi.

Stand-in Bandari coach Twahir Muhiddin said his boys were ready to upset Tusker on Saturday.
