Teachers Service Commission (TSC) county managers start a five-day workshop in Mombasa today to reflect and get sensitised on their roles under the devolved system of government.
Top on the agenda are how to improve service delivery on teacher management and how to improve the working relationship with other government officials at the county level.
Commission secretary Gabriel Lengoiboni said the 47 county directors will share their experiences and the challenges they have encountered in the past seven months since they were recruited.
He said the meeting is also crucial because the commission is in the process of revising its regulations and policies and noted that the input of the directors is necessary after serving in different environments.

“We are now an independent commission and to capture the spirit of the Constitution we need such forums with the directors to tell us how best we can deliver services under the devolved government,” he said.
Lengoiboni noted that various experts have been invited to talk to the officials on human resource management.
“Their main duties revolve around teacher management. It is important for them to get refreshed on such topics,” he said.
He said with the changes brought by the new Constitution, an expert has also been invited to talk to them on change management.
Other topics of discussion will be conflict management and resolution, best practices of county management and resources utilization.
The directors will also undergo training on optimal utilisation of government financial resources and how to articulate the independence of TSC as a constitutional Commission.
Education Minister Mutula Kilonzo and his PS George Godia are scheduled to address the directors on Thursday.
