Prime Minister Raila Odinga has promised to address challenges facing parts of North Eastern Province if elected president.

The PM admitted the area had been marginalised for long and said his government would give the region the first priority.

Raila spoke during a closed-door meeting with leaders from Mandera County in Sawela Lodge, Naivasha on Tuesday.

Industrialisation Minister Henry Kosgey and his Lands counterpart James Orengo accompanied Raila. Former Mandera Central MP Billow Kerrow led a delegation of over 40 leaders to the meeting.

Entered into pact

According to an impeccable source in the meeting, the leaders from the region entered into a pact with the PM who promised to support them in various sectors.

Issues that emerged during the three-hour meeting concern the post of Inspector General of Police, water, infrastructure and the coming elections. The source said that delegation sought the support of PM for Ali Roba to be the Governor and Kerrow to be the senator of Mandera County.

“We addressed many issues but the main ones concern the governor, senator, and infrastructure,” said the source.

The source said the PM committed himself to developing the region and called for their support in the coming elections.

Contacted on phone, Kerrow confirmed he was aware of the meeting.
