The Government has formed a taskforce to investigate cases of donkey theft that are later found slaughtered in Naivasha town.
The carcasses are sold in butcheries to unsuspecting members of the public. This came as residents in the lakeside town found three more donkey carcasses that were slaughtered last night, bringing to 40 the number killed in the last one month.
Naivasha District Veterinary officer, Peterson Njiru, said the taskforce is aimed at looking at possible ways to curb the rising cases of donkey theft.
“At least four donkeys are slaughtered every week and we hope that this taskforce will unearth the mystery behind this illegal trade,” Dr Njiru said. Naivasha Donkey Owners chairman Joseph
