United Republic Party presidential hopeful William Ruto has said opponents serving in Government do not merit the presidency.
Ruto questioned why the electorate should believe pledges such leaders make while they had failed to address grievances by striking teachers, doctors, and nurses who plan to strike next month.
“The nation is gripped by national crises but all we see is the people in Cabinet roaming all over the country making more pledges and asking to be given positions yet they cannot offer solutions to real problems facing Kenyans,” said the Eldoret North MP.
“They should make use of the positions they are in to resolve the crises before asking voters to entrust them with higher positions,” Ruto said in reference to his challengers in the race to succeed President Kibaki who hold Cabinet posts.
Ruto said the dire situation occasioned by the paralysis in public hospitals and schools is testimony of the incompetence of those in Government.
The electorate, he added, should punish those in Government in the March 4 General Election by electing leaders who are sensitive to their plight.
Moral authority
“What moral authority do they have to tell Kenyans they will better their lives if elected in the forthcoming election if they can’t solve the serious problems now?” Ruto posed.
He added: “They have no business telling the electorate to be given a chance to form the next Government. The country expects them to stop everything they are doing to come to the rescue of suffering teachers, pupils, doctors and patients.”
Ruto said voters should not be hoodwinked by those making empty promises.
