Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) has exempted Kenya Prisons team from travelling to Eldoret for the final league leg on October 5.
KVF first vice-chairman Charles Nyaberi said: “These changes are meant to give Prisons’ ample time to prepare for the FIVB World Women’s Club Championships slated for October 13-19 in Doha, Qatar.”
Nyaberi announced that the continental champions’ last tie against Nairobi Water was originally scheduled for October 5 in Eldoret.
Prisons are due to leave the country for Doha on October 9 to represent Africa in the world’s top clubs event.
Nyaberi’s announcement came few days after Prisons coach David Lung’aho had raised fears that traveling to Eldoret may cost the team in terms of fatigue and injuries.
Lung’aho thanked the KVF for exempting them from the league competition saying this will enable them concentrate on the FIVB World Clubs Championships.
Prisons have successfully defended the continental clubs crown for the past three years and hope to bag their first game win at the global level which has eluded them this far.
The team has an impressive array of stars who, if they click well, should match. Propped by flamboyant steel-spirited booster Jane ‘Samo’ Wacu and led by captain and centre attacker Praxides ‘Blackie’ Agala (pictured) the wardresses should pull off this ambition this time round.
Lung’aho’s charges boast of formidable firepower in attackers Lydia Maiyo, Mercy Moim and evergreen Evelyn Makuto that is both seasoned and physically fit. Lung’aho is ably assisted by Josp Barasa.
Team head Rose Moturi and team Manager David Kilundo exuded confidence and assured Kenyans that the team will do well this time round.
Nyaberi, on behalf of the Federation, wished the team fruitful preparation and success in Doha.
