Pokot elders in Kenya and Uganda have pledged to support government peace and security initiatives in North Rift and along borders of the two countries.

A peace forum held at Nasukuta livestock breeding centre in Kapenguria brought together elders from West Pokot, Baringo County and Amudat of Uganda.

The elders agreed to preach peace and advocate for co-existence.

The over 60 elders led by the Pokot Council of Elders chairman John Mwok and former Baringo East MP Joseph Lotodo agreed to resolve communal conflicts between the Pokots and their neighbours.

In the forum organised by Sikom, a cross border peace building organisation, the elders regretted that conflicts over boundary, resources and the culture of cattle rustling has caused loss of lives, destruction of property and fueled poverty in the region.

“We are here to express our commitment in the search for peace between our community and those of Turkana, Marakwet, Luhyas, Sabiny and Karamojong of Uganda,” said Mr Mwok.

Meanwhile, through the initiatives of Sikom, three donkeys that were stolen from Uganda have been recovered.
