Prime Minister Raila Odinga has asked Kenyans to beware of those who were opposed to the new Constitution during the referendum.
The PM accused those who voted ‘No’ as lacking in knowledge, saying they were not ready for the new Kenya.
Speaking in Kitengela town on Friday where he had gone to drum support for Peter ole Mositet, the ODM candidate in Monday Kajiado North by-election, Raila in urged Kenyans to vote in youthful leaders.
He said such leaders would help end tribalism that has divided the nation.
Shun bad politics
“Youth are the foundation of the nation and can build it by shunning the bad politics of tribalism,” said the PM.
Accompanied by Local Government minister Fred Gumo and Lands minister James Orengo among others, Raila said no one should blame himself or herself for being born in a particular tribe.
“With the new Constitution in place, the devolved Government will encourage development in all parts of the country,” said Raila.
The Premier also asked the locals to vote for him and ignore politicians who are saying he should go home with President Kibaki.
He said if he is voted in President he would change the way things are done and ensure development. “Things are still the same 50 years after independence.
Fight tribalism
There is rampant poverty, illiteracy and ill health,” he said.
Mr Gumo asked the residents to elect a person who will take care of their affairs and not divide them along tribal lines.
“The only thing that will destroy our nation is tribalism. Let us all fight it,” he said.
Kajiado Central MP, Joseph Nkaissery asked the constituents to uphold peace during next week’s by election.
“We have preached peace and we will still preach it,” he said.
Mr Mositet said if elected he will ensure the constituency is well developed because he knows the ills facing the constituents.
The PM with his entourage also visited Ong’ata Rongai, Kiserian Ngong and Bulbul.
