More than 600 Alliance Party of Kenya (APK) delegates are converging at the Kenya Institute of Education (KIE), Nairobi to pass a resolution on which presidential candidate the party will back in next year’s general election.
APK leader and Energy Minister Kiraitu Murungi said on Friday that the on Saturday meeting will make ‘resolutions that will clarify some important political matters”.
The PNU allied parties without their own presidential aspirants are torn among who to support in the long list of presidential contenders.
The NDC comes in the wake of a fall-out in the party over alleged endorsement of a coalition arrangement between the APK and the Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta’s The National Alliance (TNA) in a meeting at the Norfolk Hotel last month. The APK is among PNU Alliance allied parties that sent representatives to the controversial Norfok meeting. Controversy arose after some party leaders and officials denounced a resolution to back Uhuru’s TNA.
However, Kiraitu said the Norfolk meeting was convened by “Mt Kenya leaders and not parties”.
