The Department of Public Health has banned the use of the Naivasha District Hospital ambulance terming it a health risk.
The department said the aging vehicle posed a major risk to patients and members of the public.
In a statutory notice to the hospital, the Naivasha District Public Health Officer Samuel King’ori said the vehicle should be overhauled.
“The ambulance should stay off the road until we certify that it is in good condition to serve members of the public,” he said.
The hospital, which serves at least 500 patients every day, faces challenges mainly due to lack of an ambulance and shortage of nurses.
At the same time, King’ori said they would be disposing off 34 unclaimed bodies lying in the hospital’s mortuary.
He called on relatives whose kin were missing to check with the hospital before the expiry of the notice.
Police collected majority of the bodies from various scenes while others are accident victims who succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment.
