Pointblank
Sometimes one gets a feeling that the Government has no ears at all. Well, it does, but one thing is certain – it is hard of hearing. That is a fact that residents of Siakago and Gachoka Constituencies can confirm.
For years, residents have lived at the mercy of crocodiles that have terrorised, maimed and killed, but Government pretends neither to have heard nor seen the evil. People (women) and domestic animals have to choose between dying from thirst or dying in the jaws of rapacious crocodiles while looking for water in Kiambere Dam.
Expectant woman
Last Thursday, screams rent the air again after an expectant woman was attacked and devoured by a crocodile. This prompted angry mourners to block the Embu-Mwingi Road to protest, asking for the same thing they have demanded for years in vain — piped water.
As it appears that the Government is not only hard of hearing but also hard up it is unlikely residents will ever get piped water. That’s why we suggest KWS do the easier job and remove their treasured wildlife from this dam.
Orphan pays for Catholic Varsity’s sins
In November 2005, Shilisiah Faith Khatiebi, an orphan, was ecstatic after she secured a place at Catholic University of Eastern Africa (admission No F: T:C/148) to study for Bachelor of Commerce degree.
She applied for a loan from the Higher Education Loans Board but never got a response. As a result, she lost the chance to fulfill her academic dreams.
Surprisingly, four years down the line, HELB came knocking with a letter demanding their money back. She contacted the organisation and was informed that HELB indeed approved her loan and sent the cash to the university — four years ago!
She went straight to the university, and spoke to the dean of students, who informed her that the institution was unable to trace her documents.
“Why did the University fail to contact me when they received the cash from HELB despite having my full contacts?”
Sadly, for the past one year, Khatiebi has been repaying a loan for cash she never saw or heard about.
Can Catholic University step in and pay for this sin.
WATER WARS
Company busy antagonising client
It appears that Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) is busy watering down the little confidence some of their clients have in the firm.
For instance, long after Nyayo Estate, Embakasi resident, Indira Oyugi complained about a staggering bill of Sh12,000 that was sent to her in February, the firm hasn’t bothered to investigate and address the matter.
She claims that during the month she is supposed to have consumed several ‘dams’ of water, NCWSC never even supplied a drop to her estate.
Surprisingly, even after she complained to their offices at Comcraft House and Kayole, their officers have behaved in a most peculiar way and keep “disconnecting and carrying away the meter (No. 1859728).”
Questions
“Why do you mistreat your clients like this in this century? How long does it take for the company to rectify mistakes made by their own employees?” she wonders.
Well, these are hard questions that only NCWSC’s Managing Director Eng Philip Gichuki can answer.
Useful leak for Wikileaks founder
Perhaps no one has leaked this to Julian Assange, the man who has been holed up at Ecuador embassy in London for two months. Although the Wikileaks founder has finally been granted asylum in Equador, the country doesn’t sound like the best of places according to Gachiengo Gitau. Gitau argues that Somalia would be the perfect place for Assange to seek asylum. “Not USA, Sweden, Britain, or anyone else for that matter can trace him there and he would continue leaking from there comfortably.” This is a good idea, Julian, as we’ve got virtually no leaks on the ongoing war in Somalia. Just think about it.
