Two student lovers in an Eldoret campus are still fretting whenever they see leaves shaking, especially after an ordeal they went through on a Saturday afternoon.
Unlike the rainy weather that has extensively pounded Eldoret in the past weeks, the two took advantage of a rare sunny afternoon to stroll around.
Picnic
The two, a First Year girl and a Third Year man, had decided to stroll in the bushes as they explored the neighbourhood in which they were living in.
“When I saw them go to that side of the bush, I wanted to warn them that the plants at that side are not friendly, but then they had already disappeared,” says Kemboi, who was herding cattle near the scene.
When they were a good distance from the road, they decided to take some rest while quenching their thirsts with the snacks they had carried.
After the snack, they couldn’t avoid the temptation of getting closer to one another, which was a harbinger to stripping naked and consequently indulging in love making session.
They didn’t notice that the towering plants beside them were not ‘friendly’ to the skin.
As they got carried away with ecstasy, the more they got in contact with the leaves of the plants.
And it did not take long before the result of what they were doing was noted by people from near and far, as the girl let out an ear-bursting cry.
The guy, who was still enjoying himself, was astonished, thinking it was his stud performance.
Naked parade
He was thrust aside by the girl and when he wanted to pin her down, he noted that the girl was in great pain. Her body was swelling.
The man stood rooted in the same place speechless with the turn of events. The girl wailed in pain as a crowd gathered and alerted the whole village.
A herder who had seen them stroll towards the bush arrived to the scene as the scantily dressed couple got scorned by the multitudes that had instantaneously gathered at the scene.
“Na nyinyi mmezidi,” taunted one elderly lady, “kwani mlikuja hapa kusoma ama kuigiza kama kuku huku vichakani? Si mfanyie huu ujinga huko kwa shule?” She posed authoritatively that the entire crowd burst out in loud laughter.
The girl was helped and taken back to school by her friends. The guy had no place to hide his face as scores of abuses were hauled at him. He has never surfaced again.
It is said that he is so afraid of walking in the daylight and even attending lectures due to the shame he encountered that day.
He has even given up ambition of contesting for the students’ leadership post in the upcoming elections.
