A shift has occurred in the work place décor. A great office space is no longer about dark uninviting surroundings, but a creative environment where employees feel welcome and inspired. Today, office decor is about thinking out of the box and creating a work space that is not only inspiring, comfortable but also warm and inviting.

At Ignite Lounge at the Junction, Nairobi Njeri Rionge has managed to create her own version of a homely workspace, shunning the usual dark and dull corporate themes. When she was coming up with a decor theme for the office lounge, she ensured she came up with a look that was playful and vibrant. While the office lounge has Njeri’s own personal flair, it is also visually stunning.

Sleek workplace

Whether you are designing a home office or office lounge, a contemporary design style is the perfect bet because it will provide a modern, clean and sleek work place.

Ignite Lounge has adopted many bright and bold colours but the decor theme that runs all through is contemporary and minimalistic.

When you walk into the office   the first thing that captures ones visual senses is its blue backdrop.

Although blue can be a difficult colour to work with, Njeri impressively manages to use the blue to accent the furniture and accessories found on the lower floor. The trick is to adopt a minimalistic design approach, which means less clutter. Picking furniture with sleek lines contemporary furniture works best. Contemporary furniture is often sleek and contains little decorations. The furniture found here comes in browns and red and  are contemporary in shape and design.

The upstairs room is more like the conference/ meeting area, and although more intimate and spacious, it is a melting point of many decorative themes. It is contemporary with a little African infusion but at the same time it also plays around with texture. Texture is all about contrasting soft textures with rougher ones and this room’s decor gets it right.

Modern offices

One of the best ways to modernise an office space is to use glass, and here elongated see-through glass has been used to surround the meeting room area. The glass wall contrasts well with the wooden floor. Wood flooring in any finish helps to warm up a room’s colour palette and is also a great way to add natural elements to a space. When it comes to furniture, the majority of the room is decorated with contemporary low pillow-like sits. To add an interesting decor twist, the seats all have pillow sets, which contrast in colour. The red sits have yellow pillows, the yellow sits have red pillows and the brown sits have yellow pillows. At the centre of the colourful seats are carpets, which add interesting textures to the room. The carpets used have circular and stripped prints and have a blanket-like texture and look. At the corner of the room are wooden seats with velvet finishing and African print, which surround a hardwood table.

All in all Ignite Office Lounge is an impeccable example of what a modern working space should look like.
