A form three student in Murang’a is fighting for his life at Kenyatta National Hospital after police allegedly assaulted him.
The student at Ichichi Secondary School in Kangema district was rushed to Murang’a district hospital on the night of July 25 after he and two others were allegedly assaulted by security officers.
He was later transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital when his situation worsened.
At the same time, police have been ordered to open an inquiry file to help establish what transpired on the fateful night.
Another student, who was also assaulted after an abortive strike, was treated and discharged.
A relative of the student, Felistus Njeri, recounted how the school kept it secret the admission of the student at Murang’a district hospital.
Njeri said an X-Ray revealed that the student had a fractured skull.
It is said that police had been called to the school to contain the students who were planning to stage a strike.
The school Principal Mr Joshua Githinji said the management took the student to hospital after the matter was brought to his attention.
Githinji said the student stumbled and fell when they were being arrested.
“From my understanding, the student fell and was immediately rushed to Murang’a hospital before relatives transferred him to Nairobi,” said the Principal.
The Principal alleged that the student who is a day scholar had sneaked into the school compound at around 10 pm.
Kangema DC Fred Muli said he has ordered investigations into the matter.
Muli said Criminal Investigation Department officers have been directed to carry out investigations following the conflicting information about the incident.
“There are two versions concerning the incident with parents claiming he was assaulted and hit with a metal bar while the school insists he fell when scaling down a perimeter wall,” said Muli who chairs the district education board.
