Ruto to focus on land ownership once president

The United Republican Party (URP) Presidential aspirant William Ruto says he will focus on land demarcation once elected.

Speaking in Maua as he wound up his three day tour of Meru County Ruto said the desire of many Kenyans is to have land ownership documents to minimise the conflicts that have hampered farming and discouraged many people in the rural areas from doing business and eradicate poverty.He said URP will put in place policies and programs that will ensure the farmers will be accorded farm inputs to increase their output and guarantee them a ready market for their produce.

Addressing rallies at Mukothima and Marimanti market in Tharaka District before heading to Mikinduri and Kianjai markets in Tigania East District, Ruto said land countrywide should be demarcated.

Title deeds

“Land commissions should be decentralised to enable every person get title deeds, acquire loans and develop the country,” said Ruto.

The Eldoret North MP urged the youth to shun drug and alcohol abuse to enable Kenya be a drug-free country, noting that only his party believes in such family values.

The Eldoret North MP once again expressed his interest to work with Energy Minister Kiraitu Murungi where he called for a merger between the Alliance Party of Kenya and URP.

“Kiraitu has a bus which unfortunately lacks a driver and he should not be disturbed because I strongly feel I am the best person capable of driving it to State House,” he said during a Church service at Maua Catholic Church.

The Eldoret North MP said that once elected he will decentralise the land commission from the national level to counties to hasten the process of issuing title deeds so that farmers can access farming land and in turn transform the rural economy.

Ruto added that to further supplement the activities of the rural people he will set aside a special fund similar to the CDF kitty in value, every year, so that the youth and women can borrow loans that will not accrue any interest or require any security demands such as title deeds and motor car log books.

The Presidential aspirant said the youth and women at the grassroots do not have the required securities to borrow funds from banks but have the knowledge of investing in the rural areas.

Mr Ruto was accompanied by URP Chairman and former National assembly Speaker Francis ole Kaparo, Medical Services Assistant Minister Kazungu Kambi and legislators Joseph Kutuny, Sammy Mwaita, Benjamin Langat, Chachu Ganya and Kiptanui Koech.
