Learning at a Bungoma County Secondary School was paralyzed after students broke the school fence to join the on-going Bukusu circumcision ceremony rites.
Over 90 students in Bukembe Secondary School overpowered the school security guards immediately a singing group escorting a circumcision candidate approached the institution.
The boys abandoned their evening preps and beat up one of the guards who tried to restrain them from leaving the school to join the traditional singers who were matching along the Bukembe-Nzoia road as they made their way towards an initiate's home from his uncle's place.
When their attempts to the leave the institution through the gate failed, they flattened the school fence and matched out to join the singing party where they entertained themselves up to the wee hours of dawn.
Villagers, who intermingled freely with the students as they seeped traditional brews at night during the ceremony, told The Standard majority of them were still in their school uniform.
The locals recalled that the students only left the home where the event was being held back to school after the initiate had been circumcised.
"We sang with them, danced with them and took Busaa with them. I was shocked to discover that some of them weren't even from our Bukusu community but they related so well with us," a villager told The Standard.
