At least one person was killed and six others injured  on Friday evening in an explosion in Nairobi's Eastleigh estate.

Initial reports indicate that there was an attempted suicide bombing attack but details of the same remained scanty.

The incident happened a few metres from Moi Air Base, the Kenya Air Force Headquarters.

An eyewitness told The Standard an unidentified man in a green Prado threw a device before the explosion.

Nairobi police boss Anthony Kibuchi said preliminary investigations indicated that the deceased intended to attack a supermarket in Eastleigh’s first avenue, near the Moi Air Base.

There have been several grenade attacks in Nairobi, Coast and North Eastern provinces since the Kenya Defence Forces troops entered neighbouring Somalia last October to fight the radical Islamist group Al Shabaab.?

In March, a grenade attack in Nairobi killed four people and injured 40 others. ?
