A Mombasa court has jailed a man for four months after he admitted selling cat meat to traders.

Raphael Maefu pleaded guilty to a charge of exposing a carcass of a cat by slaughtering and told the court that he used to sell one at Sh10 to traders selling barbecue bitings popularly known as Mshikaki at Kongowea market.

Maefu pleaded with Senior Resident Magistrate Joyce Gandami for leniency saying he had learnt a lesson.

Maefu was arrested at Kongowea market in Kisauni district Mombasa County on July 24 after members of the public spotted him slaughtering a cat.

He was rescued by police officers after the angry crowd gave him a thorough beating.
