Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has warned head teachers to be wary of fraudsters extorting money under the pretext of offering them additional teachers in the forthcoming recruitment.
Commission Secretary Gabriel Lengoiboni said conmen pretending to be TSC employees are claiming they can influence the commission’s staffing policy to favour schools.
“Let it be known that TSC advertises in the dailies whenever such vacancies arise and is based on staff requirements for the different institutions,” he said.
Lengoiboni said teachers’ recruitment and selection is guided by existing staffing policies and guidelines, which he termed fair and transparent.
“TSC will only deal with Boards of Governors, District Staffing Officers and TSC County Directors and not individuals or groups of persons,” he said.
Lengoiboni also clarified registration of teachers is still charged Sh500 through a money order only. He said teacher recruitment is a free service and warned any one against making payments.

“Registration or employment of Early Childhood Education Teachers has not commenced for now,” Lengoiboni said, adding TSC is an equal opportunity employer.
He said the next recruitment of the 10,000 teachers would be advertised soon.
“Plans are at high levels to put up advertisements for the hiring of these teachers. No one should be conned or made to believe they can bend the rules,” he said.
In his budget statement, Finance Minister Njeru Githae allocated Sh3.4 billion of the required Sh15 billion for the recruitment of teachers.
This came even as teacher unions demanded that funds be provided to recruit 40,000 to cut the teacher shortfall by half.
