United Democratic Forum presidential aspirant Musalia Mudavadi has appealed to communities to shun violence.
“Let elections be the joy of uniting us in electing our leaders not forums for taking arms against each other,” said Mudavadi at Chebilat trading centre.
On the last day of his campaign tour in Kisii and Nyamira counties on Monday, Mudavadi said elections should not turn violent.
“I am aware of peace efforts that are on-going here and encourage leaders to focus on making peace rather than threats,” said Mudavadi.
Accept outcome
He said election is about winning or losing and those in the contest and their supporters must be ready to accept the outcome.
“We have enough time to make decisions, let us decide whom we want to elect and be ready to accept the outcome. My appeal to you is let us continue to live in peace before and after the elections,” he said.
The message of peace, reconciliation, and harmony has been Mudavadi’s running theme during the Nyanza tour.
“I sat with Kofi Annan for days trying to return the country to normalcy. I’ll never be the person to encourage death because of politics,” he said.
He recalled how his sister lost her house in the skirmishes.
“When I am talking to you, I am doing it from experience. My own sister lost all her property and life-time investment because of the chaos,” he added.
Successful tour
Mudavadi wrapped up his successful five-day campaign tour with a promise to unite Kenyans as a servant leader for economic prosperity and development when elected president.
“I do not want to be a ruler but your servant, worker, employed by you,” he said.
MPs Yusuf Chanzu, Boni Khalwale and George Nyamweya accompanied him.
“Elect me your president and I will not rule, but serve you as your servant. You will respect me but not fear me so that you correct me where I have gone wrong,” said Mudavadi at Nyansiongo market.
Mudavadi will from this Friday make an extensive tour of Bomet and Kericho counties, meeting opinion leaders and conducting rallies.
