Hordes of riddim fanatics made their way to the Carnivore grounds as the Uptown Saturday dancehall gig kicked off, just as the night was peeping in.
The event, organised by Homeboyz Radio, saw Pulsers gracing the night in their super-white attires.
Dubbed the No Sleep Edition, Uptown Saturday had the Carnivore grounds brimming with scintillating mixes and well-choreographed dance floors, thanks to the creative lighting, party ambiance and artsy architecture.
This was the fitting time for the spin masters to showcase their mixing prowess.
Like a fine meal, the night was a three-course affair:
10.00pm —1.00am: Refreshing Roots
The theme for the pre-performance was quite lively. And the onus of thrilling the crowd fell on DJ Andie, as more fans kept streaming in.
Sean Paul and TOK’s dancehall hits were played to the delight of the fans as they enjoyed the nightdancing the nostalgic dance moves.
In a unique turn of events, Burundian Tusker Project Fame (TPF) contestant Samantha, who had been evicted that night, was given an opportunity to perform. Her piece sparked mixed reactions from the riddim-craved partygoers.
Her night of drama was far from over, perhaps having started as dramatically; she had tumbled from strong contender to evictee in one night, as her competitors brought in their A-game to counter her good show.
At the little interview phase at Club 2010, she seemingly sulked and sped off in her car leaving a trail of besotted, disappointed fans.
Maybe the young beauty was just having too much for one night. Yet here she was again, as the crowd was treated to a rare show of over-protective security.
The singing beauty was surrounded by a bunch of beefy bouncers everywhere she went and that did not go down well with her fans.
Away from the drama, DJ Hassan took his place behind the decks and gave a good account of himself with dancehall mixes that kept the party alive.
1.00 am-3.00am: Robbo Ranx
Homeboyz’s own G Money was finishing up his night’s stint at the turntables and (DJ Robbo Ranx) could be spotted backstage warming up. The dancehall and reggae legend DJ Robbo Ranx took centre stage and immediately fell in love with the turntables.
From exotic Caribbean riddims to hardcore Jamaican reggae, he gave it all.
Celebrity footballer Dennis Oliech could be seen mingling with the crowd in the dance floor, dancing the night away with a bunch of beauties while Frasha and Mongolo kept their charm game bumping with beauties at the bar counter.
3.00Am- 6.00Am: The Quelling
By this time, most fans were utterly exhausted. However, a few were still energetic as they enjoyed the cool entertainment from deejays Heno and Vin. Lasting for almost one and a half hours, DJ Vin alias ‘The Invader’, kept spinning whilst urging guys to go to church.
