Logarusic says team is on right track

When Gor Mahia signed Croatian Zdravko Logarusic as coach three months ago, the club was struggling to keep their form in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL).

The Croatian took over when the club had gone eight matches without a win.

Three months later, Logarusic believes the team is on the right track and is determined to do better in the second leg.

The Croatian has even declared that they are currently the best team in the KPL, going by the results of their last five matches.

“We have won four of last last five matches and drawn only one. I think this makes us the best team in the KPL at the moment,” he declared.

Logarusic, whose aim is to collect the highest number of points in the second leg of the league, believes he has built a squad that is capable of doing that.

“The first leg was terrible but now we have a chance to improve on that performance and our plan is to collect the highest number of points in the remaining matches,” said the tactician.

“This should help us finish in a respectable position, however, how we finish will depend on the performance of the teams ahead of us,” he said.

Strengthen midfield

He expressed satisfaction with his recent signings but called on fans to be patient as the team is building it’s cohesiveness.

“Our aim was to strengthen the midfield and striking force which we have done well during the transfer window. Now, we have quality players but we still need to work on our cohesiveness as a team,” said Logarusic.

“Being new to the team, there is a lot of individualism in them, but this will go with time. I’m also developing our preferred model of play and a reserve one. These things take time and I plead with our fans to be patient with us, considering that we have come through the worst patch and from here, we can only get better,” he said.

He regretted at having missed out on signing two defenders who were either on long term contract or demanded for a lot of money.

He said the concern is still at the back, an area he wants to strengthen before long.

He also defended his decision to fire some key players from the club.

“We must be professional and this requires that we have a manageable number of players. My aim is to work with 25 players because it is easier to concentrate on them. I’m against keeping many players yet you only use a few. This is not a charity organisation,” he said.
