A woman is facing perjury charges at a Nyeri court after she lied that her brother in-law was dead.
Mary Wangechi was a surety in a case which Paul Gitahi and two others were facing three counts of robbery with violence charges.
Wangechi was charged with presenting a death certificate and a burial permit purporting them to be valid documents.
She was accused that on June 29 this year at the senior magistrate’s court in Nyeri in judicial proceedings against Gitahi whom she stood surety, she gave false testimony.
She was also charged with forging a death certificate no, 191931 and a permit of burial no DA248800 deeming them to have been genuine and from the registrar and the medical superintendent at Nyeri provincial general hospital respectively.
Muthoni is said to have presented the false documents to the court. She, however, claimed she did not attend the burial or see the grave of Gitahi.
Muthoni was one of the two sureties for a two million bond that Gitahi had been given. She told the court that she was the sister in law of Gitahi.
Gitahi had been alleged to have died from diarrhoea at Nyeri provincial general hospital. A warrant for his arrest was issued on May 21.
Wangechi was released on a bond of Sh200,000 with one surety of the same amount awaiting the hearing of her case set for August 2.
