Retired President Daniel Moi has hit out at tribal groupings warning that the trend was dangerous.
Moi said formation of many political parties was promoting tribalism and could plunge the country into anarchy.
The former Head of State said tribalism has been entrenched in politics by leaders dividing voters for selfish political gains.
“These tribal groupings are not healthy. We are headed for trouble with this kind of politics,” warned Moi. He spoke after opening Imani Sirwa Africa Inland Church in Trans-Nzoia County on Sunday.
Political gain
Tribal groupings, he noted, were jeopardising peace and were a recipe for chaos. “I’m against these tribal groupings,” he cautioned.
He castigated some leaders for balkanising the country for selfish political gain and urged Kenyans to reject such moves.
“It is regrettable that some leaders are diving Kenyans along tribal lines for political reasons putting the country in danger,” he said.
The former President further said he would remain a staunch member of Kanu.
Moi encouraged intermarriages to check tribalism and enhance peaceful co-existence.
