A woman in her 50s arrived at her husband’s rented house in Kericho and found the 60-year-old civil servant nibbling away on a forbidden fruit.

The woman, who was said to be suspicious of her husband escapades, travelled early from their rural home and headed straight to the house at 8am.

The lovebirds refused to open the door when she knocked. But mama watoto, also a civil servant, peeped through the window, recognised her rival and told her husband that the game was up.

Screaming, she hurled unprinted words that attracted other tenants at the posh housing estate in the outskirts of Kericho town who rushed to the scene to get a glimpse of the drama.

Enraged, she locked the door from outside and was heard calling a friend to bring her a five litres of petrol so as to douse the house and set the lovers aflame.

“I have given this ‘Satan’ all that a woman needs to do to make her husband happy, but the idiot stills look for other women. I am burning them alive now. Where is this petrol?” she shouted.

Realising they were in mortal danger, the lovers called their friends on their cellphones, one of whom fortunately called an administration policeman. The officer in turn called two of his colleagues rushed to rescue the lovebirds who by then were pleading with mama watoto to spare their lives.

 “It took the officers more than 15 minutes to convince the woman who had armed herself with a metal bar to open the door,” a source who witnessed the drama told Crazy Monday.

The lovebirds fled in the man’s car but they did not get far because the vehicle stalled just before the Kericho-Nakuru highway.

 Noting the new development, mama watoto removed a Bible from her handbag and launched into prayer to seek God’s intervention.

“Umbwa wee! Jehova matkolal karini asibar bunichu kokoteweran ak lagokchu woi wee jehova (God kindly stall that car so that I can kill these bastards who have ashamed me and my children),” Mama watoto was overheard saying.

God seemed to have temporarily answered mama watoto’s prayer because the car engine failed to start forcing the man to call for help from onlookers to help him push the car to kick-start the engine.

The lovebirds then fled from the scene amid jeers from members of the public who had jammed the compound for the morning show.
