Police are holding a woman after she was found with a hand grenade, three pistols and 11 bullets in Nairobi’s Zimmerman estate.

Detectives were hoping to arrest her husband Jamal Juma Kibiringe, 27, but allegedly missed him by minutes.

The officers involved in the operation said they had trailed Kibiringe from Mombasa where he allegedly planned to commit a crime.

The nature of the crime is yet to be revealed but the officers said they are hunting him.

Nairobi Area police boss Anthony Kibuchi said they are interrogating the woman. Anti-Terrorism Police Unit officers briefly interrogated her.

Kibuchi appealed to the public to help in tracking down the suspect as he circulated his picture.

The police boss said Kibiringe has been linked to last year’s robbery incident in which a gang stole more than Sh50 million from Barclays Bank in Eastleigh.

“We believe they planned an attack, which can be a robbery or terrorism related,” said Kibuchi.

 Rob valuables

The raid was conducted on Tuesday evening. Detectives from Flying Squad raided the house in Rurii area following a tip-off. All the pistols found are Ceskas.

Security agencies are struggling to contain terror attacks that many believe are being staged by Al Shabaab sympathisers.

Elsewhere, a gang stormed a gym along Mombasa Road and attacked about 20 people who were training before robbing them of valuables and cash.

A man was shot and seriously injured during the attack.

The victim is said to have been shot by police who started to shoot on hearing gunshots from the gym.

The six gunmen struck as those inside were busy working out. They ordered them to lie down.
