Nock sign pact with Proctor to support children

National Olympic Committee of Kenya (Nock) in partnership with Proctor and Gamble entered a partnership to support Olympians and their families during the London 2012 Olympic Games to enable Kenyan children have better access to sport.

Nock and P&G will distribute 150 sports kits to public primary schools around Kenya during the month of June ahead of the Olympics Games.

It is expected that the sports kits will enable over 200,000 schoolgoing children to develop skills and sensitise the children on the importance of sports in their daily lives for positive development.

Speaking after distributing kits at St Teresa’s Primary School in Nairobi, Proctor and Gamble Managing Director Eastern Africa Adema Sangale said  they are looking forward to being part of the Kenya success on the world stage especially with regard to track and field competitions.

“Through this campaign, we hope to reach and touch the lives of over 200,000 primary school children by providing them with access to sports equipment.

“The equipment that we have supplied to the schools include rugby balls, footballs, netballs, pumps, referee uniforms among other things,” said Sangale.

Sangale added. “Together with the National Olympics Committee of Kenya, we are committed to providing children with access to sports facilities, equipment and training opportunities with the wider view of providing a platform for talent identification and exploitation to gainful returns and hence the legacy campaign.”

It is expected that 150 sports kits wll be distributed to 150 schools around the country.

Nock chairman Kipchoge Keino supported the move, saying it will help the schoolgong children to realise their talents at an earlier age. They can then polish it up and start the art of  perfecting it while growing.

“This is a good move since the project will help these children to realise and nurture their talents at a young age,” said Keino.

A culmination of the distribution will be done on the International Olympic Day in Nairobi, Kisumu, Nyeri, Mombasa, Machakos and Bungoma.

Kenya will be entering a team of over 50 athletes in several disciplines at this year’s Olympic games, which will be held in London starting July 27 and ending August 12.
