The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has begun the recruitment of judges to the Industrial Court to address shortage.
The commission received 51 applications to fill the 15 positions advertised, but only 35 candidates were shortlisted for the interviews that began on Tuesday at the Supreme Court.
Some of the applicants were not shortlisted for the interviews as they had either failed to get clearance from the Kenyan Revenue Authority or were yet to clear their Higher Education Loans Board loans.
Other candidates were locked out because of integrity related issues and the public has been encouraged to forward any complaints against the applicants to enable the commission recruit individuals who meet the required threshold.
taken to task
Among those who were interviewed for the position included Francis Gikonyo and Timothy Mwangi who are lawyers and have been representing the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission and a lecturer with Maseno University, Anne Omollo.
The applicants were taken to task over their resolve to fight corruption and what new expertise and experience they would bring to the Judiciary if appointed.
The other issues that the board raised included professional background of the candidates. Chief Justice Willy Mutunga, who is the JSC chairman was present.
