When you are out on trips, you will miss the people close to you and important events at home. This might cause issues with loved ones, writes ALLAN OLINGO

It is always fun to travel on business trips but it can also be straining, especially when you are a family person.

When you are out on trips, you will miss the people close to you and important events at home. This might cause issues with loved ones.

Below are tips to make your travel easier on your family.

Prepare your family

As much as business trips might be unplanned, it is always advisable to prepare your family psychologically over your travel schedules. Before you leave for the trip, do everything to ensure that even in your absence, things will still run smoothly within your house. Inform them about your destination, what you will be up to and even the possible contact, so that in case of anything, they will be able to get through to you.

Maintain communication

While on travel, try to constantly keep in touch. Talk to them and make them feel at ease. Inform them about the place, what you are doing, and the weather and inquire from them the same. If possible, insist on talking to everyone in the house. This way, they will feel they are still in touch with you. A few quick phone calls, emails and chats over the social networks can mean a lot to those at home.

Bring back gifts

This is the best way to compensate for you absence. Always bring for each family member gifts so that they can associate it with your travel. This will also make your next travel easier for them because they know that there are goodies on the way.

Share your memorable moments

Every travel comes with insatiable expectations of stories, especially from your family. Do not disappoint them. Share the memorable moments you had, the fun and even the juicy stupid stuff that happened to you.

The children will be very interested in your stories, especially if they have never been to these places. Talk to them about your trip but don’t overdo it. Let them also tell you what they were up to while you were away.

Share you photos

Nothing captures the real travel like the photos. Share this with your family. Let them ask questions and offer the responses in details. This way, they will feel part of the travel as they learn about the place you visited through your photos.

You can also use the social networks to share the photos with them while you’re out on travel. It’s the new, unlimited and exciting way of sharing photos, so exploit it.

Take them with you

This is the best way to compensate but it should be on condition that they will not interfere with your work schedule. Your spouse can be having fun with the children as you finish up your work and then you can join them. This is always a tricky arrangement, but when well executed, it works.

Plan ahead if you think of taking your family with you for the travel assignment. Make sure they will be accommodated and will be comfortable as you run your schedule.
