This week marks the beginning of celebrating that special person in all our lives who gave us life – our mothers. This time round, I want the words of others to speak on behalf of this great being.

Before I was a Mom —

I slept as late as I wanted and never worried about how late I got into bed.
I brushed my hair and my teeth everyday.

Before I was a Mom –

I cleaned my house each day. I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn’t worry whether or not my plants were poisonous. I never thought about immunisations.
Before I was a Mom –

I had never been puked on, pooped on, spit on, chewed on or peed on.
I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts. I slept all night.
Before I was a Mom –

I never held down a screaming child so that doctors could do tests... or give shots.

I never looked into teary eyes and cried. I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.

I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom –

I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn’t want to put it down.

I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn’t stop the hurt.

I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.

I never knew that I could love someone so much.

I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom –

I didn’t know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.

I didn’t know how special it felt to feed a hungry baby.

I didn’t know that bond between a mother and her child.

I didn’t know that something so small could make me feel so important.

Before I was a Mom –

I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every ten minutes to make sure all was okay.

I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom.

I didn’t know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a Mom.

Wonderful Mother

God made a wonderful mother; A mother who never grows old; He made her smile of the sunshine; And He moulded her heart of pure gold;

In her eyes He placed bright shining stars; In her cheeks fair roses you see; God made a wonderful mother; And He gave that dear mother to me.

And Grandmas too...

While we honour all our mothers with words of love and praise.

While we tell about their goodness and their kind and loving ways.

We should also think of Grandma.

She’s a mother too, you see.... For she mothered my dear mother, as my mother mothers me.

Mom’s Love

Mom’s smiles can brighten any moment,

Mom’s hugs put joy in all our days,

Mom’s love will stay with us forever and touch our lives in precious ways...

The values you’ve taught,

the care you’ve given,

and the wonderful love you’ve shown,

have enriched my life in more ways than I can count.

I love you Mom!

Thank You Mom For Everything

How did you find the energy, Mom,

To do all the things you did, To be teacher, nurse and counsellor, To me, when I was a child.

How did you do it all, Mom; Be a chauffeur, cook and friend; Yet find time to be a playmate;

I just can’t comprehend. including human, must be directed towards this field.

It also must work doubly hard to enforce laws that mitigate against discrimination based on gender.

I see now it was love, Mom; That made you come whenever I’d call,

Your inexhaustible love, Mom

And I thank you for it all.
