The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has deployed 47 county education directors as it rolls out a new structure.

Nyanza Provincial Director of Education Geoffrey Cherongis has been deployed to be the first Nairobi County director of education as his Central counterpart, Patrick Nyagosia, has been deployed to Nakuru County.

The two officers were the only current PDE’s who were hired to the new positions of county directors.

Under the new constitution that sets the teacher employer as an independent institution, county directors shall replace the current PDEs.

Also in the list are college principals, ministry officials and the TSC staff from both the headquarters and the field.

Migori Teachers Training College Principal Paul Kokelo has been deployed to serve in Vihiga County.

Other officials deployed include Janet Onyango to Kakamega County, Beatrice Agala to Kisumu, Ibrahim Rugut to Mombasa and Enow Aliao to Narok counties.

Of the 47 directors, only nine are drawn from the commission.

Caroline Mwakisha, Anne Nklwama, James Nkoroi and Timado Lino from TSC headquarter have been posted to Kilifi, Kajiado, Samburu and Kwale.

In a letter to the directors, TSC Secretary Gabriel Lengoiboni said the new roles are challenging and asked them to brace for tough times.

"This is a challenging assignment which will call for your total commitment and diligence," he said.

The directors have, however, been recruited under different scales depending on their job groups.

Some 1,200 candidates had applied for the positions. Of these, TSC recruited only 20 teacher management country directors under job group R. Another 15 officers were recruited under job group Q and the remaining 12 officers recruited under job group P.
