The Pokot community has welcomed the new administrative boundaries along Turkana-Pokot counties created by the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as its neighbours moved to court to oppose it.
Some areas have been hived from Turkana County and moved to Pokot Central and Pokot East districts sparking protest from the Turkana community.
The affected areas are grazing fields and have been the battlefields for Turkana and Pokot communities, with both sides claiming ownership.
Leaders led by Rev John Lodinyo commended the commissionfs work saying they had been given what is rightfully theirs.
"We lauds IEBC on the new administrative boundaries between the two communities and we hope this will enhance harmony among the two warring communities", said Rev Lodinyo.
Rev Lodinyo said the boundaries row have been the genesis of animosity that has led to bloody confrontations between the two communities.
The affected areas are Akoret, Salmach, Nasolot Amolem, Ombilion, Kamonon and Amalel moved to Pokot County. Kapedo division has moved to east Pokot from Lokori district.
"We have documented evidence to prove that these areas belonged to Pokot community. Our dream has been realised," said Lodinyof an aspirant for Kacheliba seat.
