Former International midfielder Simon Mulama has been appointed the new coach of Nakuru All Stars, officials said.

Nakuru All Stars Chief Executive Officer Robert Muthomi said they needed a tactician with good credentials and whose reputation speaks volumes to handle the team.

He said they selected Mulama because he commands great respect among players, coaches and football stakeholders.

Mulama said he was happy to be at the club (Nakuru All Stars) and pointed out that he is up-to the task and their main aim is to gain promotion to the Premier League in the next two years.

The former Mathare United midfielder is tasked with turning around the fortunes of the club, previously called AC Nakuru, lying 13th with nine points from 12 matches in the second tier Nationwide League.

"I must push it out of the relegation zone. Although it is a tough task, it is manageable if we can succeed to show the players they can do it," he said.

He said the task of getting the players cope with the demands of the Nationwide and the Premier leagues is a tall order, which needs patience.

Mulama retired from Harambee Stars in 2002 after taking part in the six-nation Castle Lager tournament in Dar es Salaam where Kenya were crowned the champions after beating hosts Tanzania 3-2.

He went to the United States of America at Park University, Kansas City in Missouri for a degree scholarship in Criminal Justice and Administration graduating in May 2005.
