Former Devolution CS Anne Waiguru plays down push for lifestyle audit over NYS scandal

Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru has insisted she is still in the race for the Kirinyaga governor's seat.

The declaration follows recommendations recently made by the Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC) for a lifestyle audit over the National Youth Service scandal.

The committee also proposed that she should be barred from holding public office if found guilty.

Ms Waiguru maintained she was a victim of high-level political machinations because she had never been found culpable during two years of investigations.

She claimed those opposed to her made sure she was forced out of Government through falsehoods despite having nothing to link her to the scandal.

"The Opposition do not want to admit they were only out to mud-sling and defame us and if there was anything, the investigators should have, within those two years, come up with something against me," she said.

Speaking at Karira Catholic Church in Mwea constituency during a thanksgiving ceremony yesterday, Waiguru said those fighting her using the scandal were only out to smear her name.

Accompanied by her running mate Peter Ndambiri, Waiguru however said she had forgiven those who have been crucifying her over the loss of millions at NYS.

"Although they almost succeeded in bringing me down, God refused since He has always been on my side. Let us now forget the past and move on as we prepare to take over the leadership of this wonderful county," she said.

She said she was fully committed to her campaigns and expressed optimism about clinching the seat.
