My boyfriend is clingy and insecure. I'm tired of being monitored

Dear Roxanne,

I have been dating my boyfriend for three months, but I am fed up with his insecurity. He is clingy and always wants to know where I am, who I am with and what I am doing. At first, it was flattering, but I am starting to get sick of it. He calls and texts me at odd hours and then gets upset when I don’t reply immediately. He doesn’t like it when I hang out with my friends without him. He also accuses me of being unfaithful all the time, even if I haven’t done anything to make him suspicious. I am really tired of his insecurity. When I threaten to leave him, he says he will change, but it only takes him couple of days before he reverts to his controlling ways. What should I do? Rosy

Your boyfriend’s behavior is not acceptable and should not be tolerated. You need to put an end to this controlling streak before it gets out of hand.

He may love you a lot, but that doesn’t give him the right to emotionally control you. He is insecure and possessive.

This type of behavior could turn into an obsession and there is no telling what he could do next. You can’t hold on to a relationship that makes you feel suffocated.

A good relationship should make you feel safe and secure. Learn to stand up for yourself and walk away when you feel overwhelmed until he styles up.
