There was commotion at the Sarova Panafric hotel on Wednesday evening over a Sh8,500-tot-whisky served to a female reveler .

A female customer only identified as Ms. Jane had arrived at the five star hotel in the company of a male colleague and ordered for a double tot of her favourite drink.

However, the waitress informed the client that her brand was not there and instead they had in store King George V whisky, which is the most superior of all and asked her to sample it.

She then ordered for a double tot while her colleague ordered for cup of tea and alter ordered for a second double.

After finishing their discussions, the two ordered for the bill, which stood at Sh36518. The man offered to clear the bill and put shs4, 000 on the table, having mistaken the bill to be shs3, 651 instead of the actually bill of shs36, 518.

However, on perusal the waitress informed the duo that the money was not sufficient, prompting an exchange as the clients claimed they had been overcharged.

Ms. Jane insisted the waitress had told her a tot is Sh500 but was surprised to be informed that the actual cost is Sh8500.

“I was not mad to now turn around and say I was not informed what the cost of the tot is. I feel cheated by this hotel, she protested even as she produced her card to clear the entire bill.

Sarova Panafric hotel general manager Anthony Ngunga said the attendant had informed her that the whisky was expensive due to its superiority saying in any case, their price was cheapest when compared to other five-star hotels.

The general manager said the lady could have addressed her grievances using another channel but not complaining in the media and defended the price saying the client was not over charged.

“This is a 25 year old superior whisky that costs Sh70000 per bottle at the market and she was duly informed,” Ngunga said.
