Nairobi, Kenya: Former Kamkunji MP Maina Wanjigi and his wife are nursing wounds in hospital after a horrible and torturous robbery incident in which they lost two guns, cash, jewelry and other valuables at their home in Karen area, Nairobi.

Wanjigi was badly burnt with a burning iron box while the wife had nails driven into her body by thugs who raided their home on Friday night.

Police and the family say the two are admitted in a Nairobi hospital in a stable condition.

Nairobi Police Boss Benson Kibue said they are yet to know the motive of the attack and that they are holding the couple's housegirl for questioning.

The two who are above 80 years are parents to businessman, Jimmy Wanjigi.

Police said the gang of about five gained entry into the house through the kitchen door that had apparently been left open.

They then went to the bedroom and demanded cash and other valuables from the couple.

While making the demands, they used a burning iron box to torture Wanjigi.

"It seems they had misleading information on the couple or they had a different motive," said a senior police officer who asked not to be named.

In the end, the gang is said to have escaped with Sh17,000 and two guns apart, jewelry and other valuables.

A team of detectives visited the scene on Friday night and Saturday as part of the investigations.
