A flight instructor and a trainee pilot escaped death narrowly Thursday afternoon after a plane they were in crash landed in Isinya area in the outskirts of Nairobi.

The two had been on training session and were flying back to the Wilson Airport when the incident happened at about 2 pm, officials said.

Airports police commander Joseph ole Tito and his CID counterpart Joseph Ngisa said the plane was damaged in the incident.

“The plane’s propeller and other body parts have been extensively damaged but the trainee and instructor are safe,” said Ngisa.

The victims were later evacuated and rushed to hospital for check up, he added.

The incident happened almost a month after an instructor and a trainee died in a similar incident Nairobi National Park moments after leaving Wilson Airport.

The Cessna 172 plane nose-dived about three kilometers from the airport killing the two on the spot.  The incident happened on October 9.

The deceased instructor was said to be seasoned. He was taking the student for normal flying session when the incident happened at about 10 am.

The scene of the accident is common with such incidents. A number of accidents involving trainee pilots usually occur in the area.
