President Uhuru Kenyatta: Government to maintain basic school enrollment at 100 per cent.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday said the government will raise the standard of education to achieve and maintain basic school enrollment at 100 per cent.
Speaking in Eldoret, he said transition to secondary, tertiary and university level will be scaled up by knocking down barriers hindering access to education.
“I repeat this: by 'every Kenyan', I mean that no Kenyan will be left behind in the transformation of education, economy and our nation,” the President said.
“Education being an indispensable pillar of the Jubilee Coalition’s development aspirations, the President said his administration will raise the standard of education to achieve and maintain basic school enrollment at 100 per cent,” he said.
He assured that Government will increase funding to the education sector and universities will be facilitated to accommodate more students.
The President said an open university for Kenya will be established by December, 2014 to enable students to enroll through distance and e-learning, and Universities of Technology will be doubled to secure Kenya's competitiveness and innovation in ICT.
He indicated that children starting school next year will, under the Laptop Programme, will benefit from a curriculum that prepares them early for innovation and creation.
The President said Government is facilitating and overseeing the seamless relay of talent from the nursery to the work station.
“Furthermore, we aim to graduate 1,000 Ph.Ds every year in order to end the shortage of brainpower at that level, and to ensure that the expansion of our education sector is anchored in a robust intellectual foundation,” he said.
Uhuru was speaking in Eldoret when he presided over Moi University’s 29th graduation ceremony.
