Moscow, Russia: Ethiopia pulled a fast on women’s 10,000m, sneaking away with the 10,000m gold at Luzhniki Stadium here Sunday night.

Olympic champion Tirunesh Dibaba once again relegated the Kenyans to lesser silver medal.

Double Africa champion Gladys Cherono completed Kenya's round of medals hauled so far adding the missing component of medals in the bag with a silver in the women's 10,000m during the final at the Luzhniki stadium.

The double African champion, who was making her world championships debut, kept the pace with Ethiopia's nemesis Tiruniesh Dibaba to finish second in a time of 30:43.35.

Emily Chebet missed out on the bronze but was relieved with the fact that her new personal best time (30:45.17) came at the big stage on a rained off track in Moscow.

Her slide miss of the podium place riled the sizeable Kenyan crowds who were anxious to see her collect the bronze medal.

"I was aiming for gold but my final kick wasn't good enough but what am happy about is that we now know how to beat Dibaba," Cherono said after the race.

"Our plan didn't come to scratch though but am very happy with tonight's performance."

Sally Chepyego was satisfied with her seventh position although she felt she had something up her sleeve that was not seen.

"We had everything planned and were it not that I was blocked then we could have had a different outcome but all the same we have a medal which is very good for us," said Chepyego.
